Historical Significance With a documented history spanning over 3,000 years, Hebrew is one of the oldest continuously used languages, serving as the language of the Hebrew Bible and Jewish liturgy.
Revival as a Spoken Language Hebrew ceased to be a spoken language between 200 and 400 CE but was revived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, becoming the only successful example of a dead language being brought back to life on a national scale.
Number of Speakers As of 2013, there are about 9 million Hebrew speakers worldwide, of whom 7 million speak it fluently.
