Māori Language
- Linguistic Classification Māori, or te reo Māori, is an Eastern Polynesian language closely related to Tahitian and Cook Islands Māori.  
- Number of Speakers Approximately 190,000 people, or 4% of New Zealand's population, could hold an everyday conversation in Māori as of the 2018 census.  
- Official Status Māori has been an official language of New Zealand since 1987.  
- Writing System Māori uses the Latin alphabet, introduced by European missionaries in the early 19th century.
